How we work: coat by coat
A beautiful finish starts long before the spraying. Read how a job runs with us, and why preparation matters at least as much as the lacquer itself.
Five steps
- 01
Request with photos
Tell us through the quote form what you would like lacquered and add a few photos. You get a free, no-obligation quote.
- 02
Drop-off
You bring the pieces, removed and emptied, to our workshop in Tildonk. For larger jobs we discuss collection and delivery.
- 03
Preparation
Degreasing, sanding or blasting down to a sound surface. Steel for outdoor use can be metallised with a zinc layer.
- 04
Prime & lacquer
An adhesion primer, sanding between coats and a 2K PU topcoat sprayed in our booth. In any RAL colour and gloss level.
- 05
Check & collect
Once cured, we check every piece. You collect your work, ready to be refitted.
What goes into a good finish?
A durable finish is a system of layers that are matched to each other. Each layer has its own job.
- 2K PU topcoat Colour, gloss and protection. Hard, scratch-resistant and chemical-resistant.
- Primer Provides adhesion and an even base. Specific to each material: steel, galvanised, aluminium, wood, MDF or plastic.
- Zinc layer (metallising) optional Optional for outdoor steel: active protection against rust.
- Substrate Degreased and sanded or blasted. A coating is only as good as what lies beneath.
Pre-treatment by material
Every material reacts differently to lacquer. That’s why we match the pre-treatment and primer to what comes in.
-
Steel & iron
Degreasing, removing rust and mill scale by sanding or blasting. For outdoor work, optionally metallising with zinc.
-
Galvanised steel & aluminium
Thorough degreasing and light abrading, then a dedicated adhesion primer. Without that step, lacquer peels off galvanised steel or aluminium.
-
Stainless steel
Degreasing and matting, followed by an adhesion primer suited to stainless steel.
-
Solid wood & veneer
Sanding, filling where needed and a filling primer to close the grain. Sanding between coats for a smooth result.
-
MDF
Extra treatment of the edges, which soak up moisture, then priming and sanding between coats for a crisp, even finish.
-
Plastic
Cleaning, light sanding and an adhesion primer for plastics. The topcoat stays flexible enough for the material.
Wet lacquer or powder coating?
We work with 2K PU wet lacquer. An honest comparison:
| 2K PU wet lacquer | Powder coating | |
|---|---|---|
| Materials | Metal, wood, MDF, plastic | Mainly metal |
| Temperature | Cures at low temperature | Curing oven around 180–200 °C |
| Colours | Any RAL/NCS, even for one piece | Depends on available powder |
| Composite parts | Possible | Limited (heat, seals, wood) |
| Repairs | Can be touched up locally | Hard to touch up |
