Blasting & metallising

A coating is only as strong as what is underneath. Blasting removes rust, mill scale and old paint down to bare metal and gives the surface a profile that new layers grip firmly. For steel that will live outdoors, we can then metallise it: a sprayed zinc layer that actively protects the steel against rust.

What we lacquer

  • Blasting of steel and iron
  • Removing rust, mill scale and old paint
  • Metallising (thermally sprayed zinc)
  • Duplex system: zinc + lacquer
  • Structural steel, gates and frames
  • Preparation for wet spraying

Why blast?

Sanding removes the top layer, but rust in pits and corners is often left behind. In blasting, an abrasive is propelled at high speed onto the surface, taking everything back to the metal. The result is a clean, slightly roughened surface: the ideal base for a primer.

Metallising for extra protection

In metallising, zinc is melted and sprayed onto the blasted steel. That zinc layer protects the steel cathodically: even if it gets scratched, rust doesn’t simply creep through. Finished with a primer and a 2K PU topcoat, you get a duplex system that combines the corrosion protection of zinc with the colour and gloss of lacquer.

Questions about blasting & metallising

What is the difference between metallising and galvanising?

In hot-dip galvanising, the part is dipped into a bath of molten zinc. In metallising, the zinc is sprayed on. Metallising also works for parts that don’t fit in a zinc bath or must not get very hot.

Can any metal be blasted?

Steel and iron, certainly. For thin sheet, aluminium or stainless steel we choose an adapted approach. Describe your part in your quote request and we will advise you.
